Clayton Osteen and Victoria Pacheco were buried together. The pair of officers - who worked in the sheriff's department of Saint Lucie, Florida - leave behind their 1-month-old son Jayce. 

His funeral was this Saturday and his farewell was very emotional. Flowers and an American flag covered his coffin. "Clayton and Victoria were buried together this afternoon," Osteen's friend Kelly Ridle wrote on a GoFundMe page set up to raise money to help the couple's baby after the death of their parents. 

Osteen, 24, attempted suicide on New Years Eve and died two days later in hospital after being disconnected from life support machines. His wife, Victoria Pacheco, 23, who had given birth to their baby just a month ago, committed suicide days later, on January 4, Sheriff Ken Mascara said.

The sheriff described the couple as ambitious young men who were "human like us" and felt great pressure in their demanding profession. "Law enforcement officers deal not only with the day-to-day stress that we all face, but also with the stress of those they help in our community, which can be very challenging," Mascara said. 

The bailiff added that he hopes their deaths are not in vain. "While it is impossible for us to understand the private circumstances that led to this devastating loss, we pray that this tragedy will become a catalyst for change, a catalyst to help alleviate the stigma that exists around mental health and normalize the conversation about the challenges that so many of us face, "Mascara said. 

Ridle revealed on the GoFundMe page that Jayce, the couple's baby, will be adopted by a "close relative." 

"The Clayton and Victoria families are so grateful for all the prayers and support received," said Ridle. "All donations will be used to enrich Jayce's life and ensure a brighter future for him."
