The Lucky Ones

A month ago, i was running toward my house, holding my children on one hand and my dignity on the other, after noticing my oldest boy just robbed a weapon, and stole 50 lps (2$) from a neighbor, as a “inoffensive” initiation to a gang.... he is only 11.. .

he was able to keep the money, and gave it to me, to buy some food, so that his younger brother could eat healthier than he does, when we got home and i asked him why, he said “it was you, or the money mamma”. That is the reality we, the normal people live, and that’s the why he is blaming us. He blames us from running from danger and violence, we are running from hunger, we are searching education, we are hiding from injustice. Do you really think it’s easy to leave it all behind, to leave family and our land, fearing that the waters could take one of my children in the border, fearing i could be raped in the way, or have no money to feed them, this is the risk I take, the exodus i make to get to a building paradise.

On Dec. 29, USA president Donald Trump twitted, and I quote “Any deaths of children or others at the border are strictly the fault of Democrats and their pathetic immigration Policies, that allow people to make the long trek thinking they can enter our country illegally. They cant. If we had a wall, they wouldn't even try! The two children in question were very safe before they were given over to Border Patrol. The father of the young girl said it was not their fault, he hadn't given her water in days. Border patrol needs the wall and it all end.”, so lets think for a second, that instead of feeling sorry, dear Mr. President is just blaming the against party, tho, something is true, the Guatemalan girl was in dehydration as medical reports indicate, not because of the patrol, but because of the journey, so why would us mothers in our 5 senses expose children like that, only in a moment of desperation, hoping for the best, praying to avoid the worst.

It is not a secret for anyone that the Trump family is not native american, his mother, Ms. Mary Anne McLeod was scottish, her family ran away from their hometown, described as poor and drowned in dirty, sickness, and poverty. What is the difference between them and my upper triangle brothers and sisters, running away from the exact same things, I can only think on 1, they ran during WWI, does it have to be a new war so that we can be accepted in a better place? Do i have to be a Turkey or Arabic woman with children to be accepted, or tell you 43.6 people die violently of each 100 in my country, or that the World Bank said our poverty was in a 66% rate, or that there are at least 20000 rapes a year, for me to be listened?

Same president, Donald Trump, has been recently twitting a lot about building a wall, a wall that separates, a wall that isolates them, and put us in the same giant jail, but we are humans, and with great, there is nothing we can’t do, we will climb that wall, fighting against the luck we were born to. Ronald Reagan once said “illegal immigrants in considerable numbers have become productive members of our society and are a basic part of our workforce. This who have established equities in the united states should be recognized in accorded legal status”, he was right, we are the ones working your lands, harvesting your crops, cleaning your homes, fixing your mess, with a low pay, nonetheless, that money is something great compared to our hometown earning, which is not over 367$. We need this, we need the jobs, we need the health system, we need the opportunity wasted on our unlucky condition of being poor, we are not bad, we are only desperately acting for a better life.

We are not the lucky ones, we did not had a choice, we are not the lucky ones, we did not lived on a chandelier mansion, or had private education, or a three meals day. We are not the lucky ones, the kids had to walk half an hour to get to school, but they judge us, because i couldn't afford a Visa Application, because i took my kids on a dangerous journey, but they did not see how it was before, the life we got, not  on our choice, because in the end, we are not the lucky ones, and here, those who have the lucky economic and political power control the laws, the rights and our lives.

By now, I just got off a plane that brought me and my children back, taking the promise that we would work hard to“make things better”, when truth is, one of my sons by tomorrow would be again walking behind the gang chief, and the other would get sick of his hunger some day and starve to death or follow his brother’s steps, BECAUSE WE ARE NOT THE LUCKY ONES, there are not scholarships in hell, and there is not a good godfather in the mug.

Today my fellows, i speak in the name of all those who had the opportunity denied, hopping you have a little bit of a heart, and conscience, to see we are all humans, we are all world-habitants, we are all Americans, and if anyone of my home-country ever hears, reads o sees this speech, I hope you work to make us great, so that we won't be afraid again of our own land.
